Actor, SAG President, and ‘30 Rock’ Alum Ken Howard Dies at 71

One of 30 Rock’s friendliest faces has passed away. Earlier today, it was confirmed that longtime actor and Screen Actors Guild president Ken Howard died today at the age of 71. In addition to serving as the head of SAG-AFTRA, Howard starred in the ‘70s series The White Shadow and is known to younger audiences for his role as Kabletown head Hank Hooper on 30 Rock. “We are deeply saddened to announce that SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard passed away today,” SAG said in a statement. “Ken was an accomplished actor, author, teacher and unionist whose steady leadership as president of Screen Actors Guild positioned him to guide the union’s historic 2012 merger with American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. In addition to his many professional credits, awards and other laudatory work, he led the union for nearly seven years and was devoted to the interests of its membership.” Howard’s cause of death has not yet been revealed.
