CBS isn’t making fans of (most) of its shows wait until May to learn their fates: The network has just renewed nearly a dozen of its established hits for next season. On the drama front, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans join the previously picked up NCIS on the Eye’s safe list, along with warhorses such as Elementary, Scorpion, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-O and Madam Secretary. Comedy-wise, CBS’s roster will continue to include Mom and 2 Broke Girls, in addition to already-renewed The Big Bang Theory. And, because they will likely last longer than the current Republican party, both Survivor and The Amazing Race will continue. Perhaps more notable than what CBS ordered today is what didn’t get picked up. The network is waiting a few more weeks before renewing any of its freshman series — sorry, Supergirl fans — and it’s already confirmed death notices for The Good Wife and Person of Interest. But returning dramas Criminal Minds and CSI: Cyber, along with reality vet Undercover Boss, did not make the cut today. Given the so-so ratings for CSI: Cyber and Undercover Boss, their absences aren’t a shock (though it’s still possible one or both will ultimately survive). Criminal Minds, however, is one of CBS’s biggest hits. The network isn’t commenting, but most likely, the only reason its renewal hasn’t been announced yet is because of behind-the-scenes financial conversations with CM producer ABC Studios. Older shows get more expensive as they age, and odds are, CBS and ABC Studios are trying to figure out how much the show will cost the network going forward.
