It’s no secret that there are a lot of funny sketch groups outside of the also very funny UCB community but, because UCB is so incredibly prolific, that reality isn’t always given its due. For that reason, this week’s column is devoted to Redford, an LA-based main stage sketch group at iO West who makes me want to go against every impulse in my body and watch recordings of live performances that have been posted to YouTube (I’ve done it before, but not often).
Tens of views aside, Redford is really good. Accessible, well-acted, and, at many times, laugh-out-loud funny, their material makes me think of watching SNL 15 years ago, when I didn’t think of comedy as a career, and characters hit me in the pit of my stomach. Hopefully you all feel the same. REDFORD, baby!
