It’s been a little more than 23 years since viewers first saw Richard Belzer play Det. John Munch on Homicide: Life on the Street. Since then, the character gained the rare distinction of appearing in more shows than any other in television history: The cynical cop had cameos on The X-Files, The Wire, and Arrested Development, just to name a few of the places his scowling visage showed up. But he was perhaps best known for being one of the stars of Law & Order: SVU from its inception in 1999 until his character left the Special Victims Unit in 2013. But you can’t keep a good cop down: According to Entertainment Weekly, Belzer’s bringing the character back to SVU for an appearance in a May episode about a “young model who claims she was preyed upon by a famous fashion-house photographer.” Not even Terry Richardson pastiches can escape the long arm of John Munch.
