Switched at Birth, Freeform’s earnest and moving family drama, will come to an end after its upcoming fifth season. Creator Lizzy Weiss announced the news on Twitter yesterday. The network, formerly known as ABC Family, confirmed Switched at Birth’s cancellation and said that its ten-episode final season will conclude with a 90-minute finale, though a premiere date for that season hasn’t yet been announced. Switched at Birth stars Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc as two teenage girls who discover they were switched at the hospital as newborns. The series gained much of its acclaim for its portrayal of the deaf community, and notably had one episode performed entirely in American Sign Language.
