Afghanistan’s Sesame Street Adds Its First Girl Muppet, Zari, Who, Like All Muppets, Is Totally Fine to Tear Up Over

Look at all those puppeteers! Dedicating their lives to building adorable puppets! Puppets that teach children how to count and spell and be good friends! Just try not to get choked up. Sesame Street’s local Afghanistan production Baghch-e-SimSim will be adding their first girl Muppet for the show’s fifth season, and based on the adorable behind-the-scenes video, Zari is totally cool about being a puppet TV star being operated by a team of human people. That’s a lot for a 6-year-old. She’s a trooper. Sesame Street International Social Impact says Zari “will be featured in new, locally produced segments that focus on topics like: girls’ empowerment, national identity, physical health … and MORE!,” and if that doesn’t make you feel all warm inside, perhaps you are the intimate object with Ping-Pong ball eyes. Perhaps it is you.
