How the Drug Underworld of Starz’s Hit Show Power Was Created in New York City

Power, the highest-rated show on Starz, doesn’t just count on its combination of the drug trade, Meatpacking nightclubs, and executive producer 50 Cent to give it New York bona fides — it’s also shot there, making the show a perfect subject for The City of Scenes, a new limited-run podcast jointly produced by Vulture and Bloomberg that discusses TV and film made in New York City.

Vulture’s Kevin Lincoln and Bloomberg’s Katherine Oliver hosted Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh to talk about how important it was to shoot in New York, how the city informs the characters and actors’ performances, and using the variety of the five boroughs to represent a diverse world. Listen to the episode above, and then check out our past episodes featuring the creator of Jessica Jones and two executive producers of Girls.
