Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
What is it about pizza rolls that makes them such great fodder for comedy? SNL has turned to them for a bunch of sketches over the past few years, and as this new clip from Second City proves, they’re just as popular in scenes on the live improv stage. From the 2011 revue South Side of Heaven, this week’s clip features SNL alum Tim Robinson alongside SNL writer Katie Rich in a pizza rolls commercial audition that goes horribly wrong…or horribly right? Check out another great clip from the revue here.
