Phil Lord and Chris Miller want Alden Ehrenreich, the 26-year-old scene-stealer from Hail, Caesar!, to play their young Han Solo. The actor has secured the role, according to multiple trade reports, and is in the final stages of deal negotiations. The Thursday update comes less than a month after Ehrenreich was declared the front-runner for the Han standalone, on the heels of what Deadline’s sources were calling an impressive casting performance.

The Wrap writes that Lord and Miller’s origin spin-off “is expected to follow Solo before he links up with the rebel alliance,” with Chewbacca playing a key part and Boba Fett making a potential appearance. Ehrenreich competed against more than 2,500 others to topline the project, including the likes of Miles Teller, Emory Cohen, Taron Egerton, and Jack Reynor. Though the new Corellian smuggler might debut with a Rogue One cameo, the character’s big solo flick hits theaters May 25, 2018, with production starting early next year.
