It wouldn’t be a movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing without a cameo from retiring Red Sox star David Ortiz, and you’re fucking right it’s happening: Big Papi is set to appear in Mark Wahlberg’s Patriots Day, about the Boston bombing and its aftermath, as himself and will reenact his instantly famous speech at Fenway, according to The Hollywood Reporter. You’ll remember that days after the bombing, Ortiz addressed the crowd at Fenway Park for an emotionally candid speech in which he declared, “This is our fucking city.” It was a moment so spirit-raising, even the FCC overlooked the on-air expletive, and Obama called it one of his “proudest moments as president” — the Red Sox went on to win their third World Series later that year. Ortiz has previously appeared as himself in Jimmy Fallon’s Fever Pitch. He’ll reportedly set aside some time from the Red Sox schedule this month to film his speech, because this his fucking movie, too, and he’s not about to miss it.
