Morley Safer, who retired from CBS last week after nearly 50 years with the network, died today at the age of 84. To honor the reporter’s career, CBS aired a special tribute to him on Sunday. Morley Safer: A Reporter’s Life chronicles the veteran journalist’s vast body of work from his early days on the front lines of Vietnam to his later years interviewing the likes of Betty Ford and Jackie Gleason. As his friend Tom Brokaw aptly put it: “When he was on television, he was Morley Safer. And his interests and his intellect and his humor all came through. And people saw that.”
