The 2016 recipient for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor has been revealed. According to The New York Times, this year’s prize will be given out on October 23rd to Bill Murray. “An award-winning writer, actor and comedian, his brilliant wit and infectious spirit continue to inspire our laughter across generations both on and off the screen,” Kennedy Center president Deborah F. Rutter said on the news. “His unique brand of humor seems to defy time itself — always remaining relevant and relatable to new audiences — much like our award’s namesake.” Said Murray on the news: “I’m honored by this award and by its timing. I believe Mark Twain has rolled over in his grave so much for so long, that this news won’t disturb his peace.” Murray joins a long list of Mark Twain Prize winners including Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Carol Burnett, and Will Ferrell.
