Things are heating up for TV Land. After ordering a Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone–produced comedy, the network has announced that How I Met Your Mother’s Alyson Hannigan and Smash’s Megan Hilty will be headlining its long-gestating reboot of the 1996 film The First Wives Club (which was based on the 1992 novel by Olivia Goldsmith). As first reported by Deadline, the show will be set in present-day San Francisco and will follow three women who reconnect after a close friend from college dies in a freak accident. Discovering they’re all at romantic crossroads, they proceed to band together to tackle divorce, relationships, and life in general. Hannigan will portray Maggie, an English professor at a university in San Francisco, while Hilty will play Kim, a successful actress on the cusp of aging out of Hollywood. This should pair wonderfully with Hot in Cleveland reruns.
Update: The third first wife has been found. Deadline reports that Vanessa Lachey has been cast as Sasha, a successful chef who has a “hot restaurant and a great girlfriend who she plans to marry.” So Nick, you can just stay out of this one.
