After explaining how America can effectively fight for gun legislation, John Oliver turned to an issue across the pond for his main Last Week Tonight segment: Great Britain’s proposed “Brexit” from the European Union. While Oliver made a strong case for why his motherland should stick with their EU neighbors, if for no other reason than it helps them financially, even the progressive liberal host couldn’t stop his British upbringing from shining through with his reflexive disdain for other member countries. To appease his own frustration, while still urging the U.K. to stay, he added operatic lyrics to the Union’s anthem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, that brings a whole lot more happiness — and more references to spotted dicks — than the old “Ode to Joy” words.
