When life gives you lemons, it’s hard not to go ahead and drink that bitter juice. If the video for Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” taught you anything, and it taught you everything, it’s that the name “Eminem” was probably verboten in the Cannon–Carey household. So it’s a little odd that Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon spends so much time commiserating with him on his new track, “Divorce Papers.” Raps Cannon, “Em, right now I can really relate to him / drug habits, all the pain that he was in / saying foul shit when you don’t know where your baby mama been.” As Cannon explained to Karen Civil when he released the track, “I’ve been sitting on the song for almost a week now because I was really torn on whether or not I should release it. The last thing I would ever want to do is add fuel to the fire, especially a fire that was fabricated by the press. But, ultimately I felt it was necessary to clear the air and set the record straight once and for all.” Hey, if it results in Mariah Carey dressing up as Nick Cannon and releasing a song and video about him purely out of spite, then it was all worth it. Oh, that’s the lemonade!
