Ricky Gervais’s Office Spinoff Movie Is Coming to Netflix, Because British Cinemagoers Shouldn’t Be the Only Ones Who Get to Ride on the Free-Love Freeway

Pretty girl on the hood of a Cadillac, yeah, she’s broken down on Freeway 9. But if she’s got a good data plan, she’ll still be able to stream Ricky Gervais’s David Brent: Life on the Road. While visiting the Opie With Jim Norton Show on Tuesday, Gervais revealed that the British Office spinoff movie, which follows the former paper-company manager’s last-ditch effort to become a rock star, has been acquired by Netflix. “Which is great for me,” he told the hosts, “because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas.” (It’s unclear how this news affects the film’s previously announced August release in the U.K.) “I want to do tours off the back of it,” Gervais added, sounding suspiciously like Brent himself.
