The Strokes Cover the Clash, Creating a Perfect Punk-Rock Vortex

It’s been a good week for fans of the Strokes. (Particularly if you live in the New York metropolitan area.) They played an homecoming show at the intimate Capitol Theatre on Tuesday, released their new (excellent!) EP Future Present Past at midnight yesterday with a music video, and then proceeded to headline the Governor’s Ball in the evening. Besides the expected new and old tunes peppered throughout their set, the gentlemen also whipped out an old cover from their catalogue “Clampdown” by the Clash, which Rolling Stone notes is a cover they used to perform frequently in their early aughts, but haven’t in 12 years. Break out your leather jacket and get ready to dance.
