Chicagoans Should Be Pretty Satisfied With Karen Olivo and Miguel Cervantes in Their Hamilton Cast

With a cast this good, maybe Chicago audiences will forgive Hamilton for calling New York “the greatest city in the world.” Miguel Cervantes, whose credits include Broadway appearances in If/ThenAmerican Idiot, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will take on the role of Alexander Hamilton as Hamilton starts its national tour in Chicago. Karen Olivo, who won a Tony for her performance as Anita in West Side Story, will play Angelica Schuyler. She also originated the role of Vanessa in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights. Alexander Gemignani will play King George III. The rest of the cast includes Ari Afsar (Eliza Hamilton), Chris Lee (Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Joseph Morales (Hamilton alternate), Jose Ramos (John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton), Wallace Smith (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison), and Samantha Marie Ware (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds). Hamilton starts its Chicago run at the PrivateBank Theatre on September 27.
