Helen Mirren is in Fast 8 — not for the money, not for the franchise, but because the Queen has a need for speed. Last year, the actress even told Yahoo Movies that “My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie … I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie,” and just last month, she explained to Elle, “I said, ’I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’” Well, Mirren needs to get herself a better agent, because those dreams are stalled. As she admitted to Entertainment Weekly: “I wanted to be driving, but unfortunately, I’m not. Maybe that will come in the future, in Fast and Furious 12.” The painful irony? Mirren’s way more qualified to get behind the wheel than one of her knuckleheads co-stars like Vin Diesel or Dwayne Johnson. “I’m probably one of the few people on the set who know how to drive a gear shift car. I doubt the Rock knows … But I do. I know how to double declutch,” she said. It’s an outrage. That being said, the prospect of Mirren in four more Fast movies? Not so much.
