Concertgoers at the Ride Festival in Telluride, Colorado, were treated to a special Christmas-in-July gift from Pearl Jam on Saturday when the band brought out their 1993 holiday single “Angel.” The last time Pearl Jam, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, played the song live was in 1994. “Some of you may know that this next song doesn’t get played much and some of you may not,” frontman Eddie Vedder said before the performance. “It was written by the guy who was our drummer, Dave Abbruzzese. We wish him well.” Abbruzzese was fired from the band in 1994, and in 2015, was issued two arrest warrants due to controlled-substance charges.
The band kept the Christmas cheer going with another rare holiday single, “Santa Cruz,” which hadn’t been performed live since 2010.
