As other late-night shows take on convention season with gusto, it’s easy to watch The Tonight Show’s apolitical approach and think that the show is kind of spinning its wheels. Well, cut to Thursday night, when Will Smith literally rolled into town inside of a giant hamster ball. The bit came as part of Smith’s efforts to create the greatest talk-show entrance of all time. He tried the bubble-boy thing, went for normal walking, and threw a dance party, all before settling on a good ol’ gospel choir. Smith seemed pretty satisfied with that last one, but, listen, Fresh Prince, my man: When you’re ready for a real crowd-pleaser, you know what to do.
