Party Over Here Canceled, Never to Be ‘Here’ on Fox Again

After just one ten-episode season, Fox has decided to stop the music, kick everyone out, and cancel Party Over Here, reports IndieWire. The late-night sketch-comedy series seemed ripe to succeed: The creators were sketch veterans Saturday Night Live’s the Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) and comedian Paul Scheer (Human Giant), while the cast starred funny and young Upright Citizens Brigade alums Nicole Byer, Jessica McKenna, and Alison Rich. Wary of competing directly with SNL, the program even ran at 11 p.m., a full half-hour before the behemoth’s time slot. Still, all that wasn’t enough to overcome lackluster ratings and, more important in this late-night age, the absence of viral clips necessary to attract new viewers and garner attention. Though this program is no more, Lonely Island has a production deal with Fox that could lead to other efforts from the pop-star group — hopefully this time with more of the internet shattering, comedy-changing success of their digital shorts.
