The New International Trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Has New Information, More Death Troopers

Last week during an Olympics prime time broadcast we got a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which we gave a thorough breakdown of right here. And today we got a very similar, but different-enough-to-matter international clip that provides a new morsel for those not content to take their Saga footage at face value. Near the beginning of last week’s trailer, Rebellion leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) tells Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), “We have a mission for you. A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know how to destroy it.” But at the start of the international version she gets a bit more specific, telling Erso that, “We have intercepted an encoded Imperial transmission. It indicates that a major weapons test is imminent,” at which point Rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor adds, “The message was sent by your father.” You may recall that earlier this spring, Mads Mikkelsen let slip in an interview with Sky News that his character is connected to Jyn, saying “I read the script and it was very beautiful, and Felicity is playing this lovely, strong woman and I play her father.” Realizing his error, Mikkelsen then added, “And that was too much. I’m sorry.” And considering we know that his character is named Galen Erso, we can now be sure that he wasn’t trolling fans with misleading intel. So if Galen sent the transmission, that likely means our heroine’s father is either an Imperial traitor, or he’s being kept prisoner by their forces and found a way to sneak out a communiqué. This would also account for why Jyn, who we meet clapped in irons, signs on to help the Rebellion so eagerly.

And, on a visual note, the international trailer gives us a better look at the incredibly cool — and incredibly marketable — new Death Troopers. Feast your eyes on the trailer above and the special-forces fighters below.
