Nobody puts Baby in a corner, that is, unless decades have gone by and the actress who played the original Dirty Dancing’s “Baby” chooses to be in that corner of her own volition. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting her show Red Oaks at the Television Critics Association, Jennifer Grey (the aforementioned Baby) explained that, although she was offered a part in ABC’s made-for-TV remake of Dirty Dancing, she declined because, “It would be sacrosanct for me to do it because it didn’t feel appropriate to me.” The actress further explained, “It feels like if you’re going to do your own thing, do your own thing.” Grey’s former starring role, Baby, has been given to Abigail Breslin in the television version. While Grey was chatting about the part that made her an ’80s icon, she also reflected on her co-star, the late Patrick Swayze. “He smelled really good, his skin was really nice. He was really strong and he was very protective and his heart was very much in it,” she said, adding, “He was a great dancer and he was fearless.” Now would be a great time to watch Swayze and Grey’s perfect choreography to “Time of My Life” from that movie, on repeat.
