This time, Green Day woke up before September began: After a four-year gap, the band has returned with “Bang Bang,” the first single off their upcoming twelfth album, Revolution Radio. It’s not a Jessie J cover; instead, it’s a dark tale of gun violence, narrated by “daddy’s little psycho and mommy’s little soldier.” As Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone, the song is “about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media. There’s this sort of rage happening, but it’s also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance.” There are also a lot of power chords.
