Sometimes, when Hollywood gets its hands on a property you know and love, such as the reality-TV series Cops, which began airing in 1989, you worry that the adaptation will fundamentally change its appeal. Fear not: A new film based on the reality-TV series Cops, being written by Cameron Fay and directed by Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, will still be about cops. “The idea,” Deadline reports, “is to turn that vibe — best known for its catchy theme song — into an edgy narrative feature with a buddy-comedy bent on the order of Lethal Weapon.” The movie Lethal Weapon, in other news, is turning into a TV series. So it goes.
