Boy, those pirouettes sure are gonna look pretty on the big screen: A taped performance of the Tony-winning musical Newsies will debut in movie theaters in 2017. According to EW, many key members of the show’s original Broadway cast will return for the filmed performance, including Supergirl actor Jeremy Jordan, who starred as reluctant newsboy leader Jack Kelly, as well as Kara Lindsay (Katherine), Ben Fankhauser (Davey), and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Crutchie). The performance will tape September 11 at Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre, debuting on the silver screen sometime next year. Of course, the medium switch isn’t Newsies’ first experience in cinema; its original form was as a 1992 movie-musical flop. Gaining love as a cult hit, the Alan Menken–scored show was later adapted as a stage show, playing on Broadway from 2012 to 2014. Well, hey, theatrical distribution is certainly one way to finally get Jack Kelly to Santa Fe.
