Today is Leonard Cohen’s 82nd birthday, so can we get a hallelujah? Instead of resting on his laurels as people continue to cover his 1984 hit ballad during awards-show “In Memoriam” segments, Cohen has instead chosen to celebrate by releasing the title track from You Want It Darker, his upcoming 14th studio album. The track, which sees Cohen affecting a mournful growl over sustained organ chords and a mysterious chorus of voices, was produced by Cohen’s son Adam, a full-fledged adult who presumably by now isn’t weirded out by the infamous story behind his dad’s song “Chelsea Hotel #2.” You Want It Darker will be released in full on October 21.
