One of the loveliest aspects of the High Maintenance world, out of many, is that they’ve created a sort of repertory company for their characters, who continue to pop up in random places over each iteration of the series. If you’re a long-standing High Maintenance connoisseur (conno-stoner? I’m very sorry), you might be wondering if any of your favorites make an appearance in the new six-part HBO version premiering on September 16.

The answer, not surprisingly, is yes. Below, we take a look at a few key characters who return.

Spoiler alert: If you don’t want to know who returns, do not read this piece.

One of a handful of High Maintenance three-peaters, Chad first appeared in "Dinah" in 2013 as a fun-loving stoner staying at his doctor friend's house, then came back for "Sabrina" in the Vimeo iteration, where he invited a bunch of friends to someone else's lakefront property. In the new series, Chad has a new home, and he's making the best of it. Played by New York improv mainstay Roberti, who also had a memorable appearance this year as the co-op employee with a man-bun on Broad City. You loved to hate them in "Olivia" and then hated them again in "Matilda," but if Max Jenkins' insane performance in the first episode of the HBO series doesn't make you love him, or at least feel something very strong for him, then really nothing else will. She was coupled up in "Heidi" way back in 2012, which was also, incidentally, one of the only High Maintenance episodes named after the star of the episode (the others are named after peripheral characters). She returned in Hannibal Buress's episode, "Jonathan," but her story in the HBO series turns her world on its head. Certainly one of the most high-profile High Maintenance appearances leading up to the HBO series, Downton Abbey's very own Dan Stevens had been a big fan of the series and was given a plum role as Colin, a writer with cross-dressing dreams. Now, still married to Becky (played by Katja Blichfeld, the co-creator of the series), Colin returns for a dinner-party episode in the HBO series. Best known as Lorna Morello on Orange Is the New Black, High Maintenance knows her as Beth, who busted out a Boston accent in "Esme," and then returned again in the lake-house episode, "Sabrina." This season, Beth appears as a love interest to a surprising character in one of the HBO series' most memorable episodes. Creighton, who is also the only other credited co-writer on the early series episodes, plays his kind, Helen Hunt–obsessed agoraphobic in "Helen" and "Genghis." His appearance in the new series is touching, and will have you reaching for a La Croix. But not coconut flavor. Coconut La Croix is terrible and should never be sold to anyone except your greatest enemies. Buress previously starred in "Jonathan," which was certainly one of the most widely discussed of the earlier HM episodes. In it he played a comedian struggling with returning to the stage after a traumatic experience at one of his shows. You can currently see Buress on every single Netflix stand-up comedy special in existence. Quinn appeared in the very first episode of High Maintenance that ever was, as a high-strung assistant trying to score weed for her boss. She appears in the HBO series in a more adult context, married and living in a lovely brownstone with her youth-obsessed father.
