Monty Python’s Terry Jones Has Been Diagnosed with Dementia

Between their late night show appearances, multiple live reunion tours, 2015 documentary, and the release of their entire discography, the surviving members of Monty Python have been going strong in recent years, but there’s some sad news behind the scenes: 74-year-old Terry Jones has been diagnosed with dementia.

A representative for Jones broke the news in a statement released to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Wales today, which was later confirmed by his family:

Terry has been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia, a variant of Frontotemporal Dementia. This illness affects his ability to communicate and he is no longer able to give interviews. Terry is proud and honoured to be recognised in this way and is looking forward to the celebrations.

BAFTA will honor Jones with a retrospective of his work as well as the award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television on October 2nd.
