In a sense, it’s just a small step from meth to cyanide. Vince Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad, and Michelle MacLaren, who produced the series and directed some of its most distinctive episodes (see “To’hajiilee” or “Gliding All Over”), are reuniting to make another very addictive TV drama. The limited series, called Raven, is an adaptation of Tim Reiterman’s account of Jonestown, the American religious commune in Guyana founded by Jim Jones that gained infamy in 1978 when all its members died of cyanide poisoning in an apparent mass suicide. Octavia Spencer is also producing the project, though she will not appear in the series. We could of course see Bryan Cranston playing Jim Jones himself, with Aaron Paul as an acolyte, though perhaps the latter’s a little full-up on cults right now.
