Chicago’s City Councilman Candidates Square Off in a Debate at The Second City in 2012

Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.

Ahead of tomorrow night’s third and final presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Second City sent us a clip this week featuring a much more local debate that took place in 2012. From the ETC revue We’re All in This Room Together, the above scene features Mike Kosinski and Michael Lehrer as two Chicago City Councilman candidates going head-to-head in a debate addressing all the important issues, including rats in toaster ovens, shotguns for all, and “ball condoms.” Chris Witaske plays the debate moderator, who keeps things moving along smoothly: “At any point during Fred’s response to this question, if you disagree with one of his platforms, you can raise your hand and he will change it to something completely different. Capisce?”

Check out some more clips from the revue featuring SNL’s Aidy Bryant here, here, and here.
