Everybody did a Making a Murderer parody this year. Everybody. So why is The Simpsons’ Itchy & Scratchy brief Mousetrapping a Murderer parody genuinely unnerving? Is it because Itchy literally murders and dismembers Scratchy immediately following the faux-opening? The knives? The creepy music followed by children’s laughter? You wouldn’t think so. Practically every show on TV has all those elements, if not more! Maybe it’s just bumping up against a Making a Murderer parody saturation point. The grey, grim field of mouse traps doesn’t help, either, though.
