Good news to all Americans threatening to move north of the border should the presidential election go south: Your fellow Canadian citizens are Europe’s favorite artists. During Sunday’s 2016 MTV European Music Awards, Drake, Justin Bieber, the Weeknd, and Shawn Mendes all took home top honors for the night. Mendes and the Weekend appeared in Rotterdam to perform live and accept their respective awards for best male artist and best video (watch Mendes sing “Mercy” and the Weekend perform “Starboy” below). Meanwhile, Drake was absent when his name was read for best hip-hop, as was the Bieb, who won best Canadian act, best song for “Sorry,” and, naturally, biggest fans. Meanwhile, American artists weren’t completely left out: Ariana Grande won best U.S. act; Twenty One Pilots received both best live show and best alternative; and Lady Gaga proved supreme with best female and best look. Beyoncé, however, was somehow overlooked, losing in all five of the categories she was nominated in, which is making us reconsider our decision to move to the Netherlands if that election apocalypse happens on November 8.
