Gilmore Girls’ Liza Weil and Danny Strong on Why Paris and Doyle Are Meant to Be Together

Spoilers ahead for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Paris Geller wasn’t the easiest person to get along with, but on Gilmore Girls, even the angriest characters can find love, as Rory’s best frenemy did with Doyle McMaster. Whether they were bickering in the Yale Daily News room, doing coordinated dance moves at a keg party, or ambushing each other with Krav Maga moves, it seemed to be a match made in Stars Hollow–adjacent heaven. But with the revival, the bubble has all but burst. In the first installment of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, we find out that the duo’s getting a divorce. But where do they go from here? Maybe right back to each other. When Vulture asked Danny Strong, who plays Doyle, if he thought his character and Paris are meant to be together at the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiere, he responded: “I mean, me? Kinda. I feel like they’re kindred spirits.” Liza Weil, who plays Paris, agreed: “I mean, they’ve been together a long time, they’re deeply connected. Yeah, I don’t know if they could do much better than each other, you know?” And we wouldn’t want them to! #TeamParDoy forever.
