It’s been a revealing couple of years for Dr. Dre, who’s received controversial — and contrary — portrayals in Straight Outta Compton and Lifetime’s Michel’le biopic. Now, he’s getting the nonfiction treatment in The Defiant Ones, a docuseries about his partnership with Jimmy Iovine. The project, directed by Allen Hughes, is coming to HBO. Per Deadline, it promises to track the “unlikely but ultimately unbreakable bond of trust and friendship between two street-smart men from different worlds.” In addition to footage of Dr. Dre and Iovine filmed over a three-year period, The Defiant Ones will feature interviews from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Tom Petty, and more, plus as-yet-unseen writing and recording sessions with Springsteen, Petty, U2, N.W.A, and others. The very prestigious installment of Behind the Music will air in 2017.
