Dearly beloved, after Prince’s untimely death at the age of 57 earlier this year, we’ll always wonder what might have been. What else would he have written? Would he have done more episodes of New Girl? Well, one of those lingering possibilities comes from GQ’s compilation of reminiscences from Prince’s friends and colleagues. Maya Washington, a photographer Prince befriended, mentions a Netflix show about Paisley Park. “He was supposed to do something with Netflix, a reality show on Paisley Park,” recalls Washington. “He’s, ‘Why don’t you help me?’ I’m, ‘I’d love to, but you’d have to be in it.’ And he’s, ‘No, no, no, I’m not in it.’ I’m, ‘Why not? You’re so funny — why don’t you want anyone to see your sense of humor?’ And he would shut it down: ‘Maya, I can’t be funny. I have to save the world.’” Netflix confirmed to Vulture that, indeed, the network had had conversations with the Purple One about doing a show. “We did have discussions about it, but sadly for all of us it did not come to fruition prior to his passing,” a Netflix spokesperson said. Oh, the insults we could have heard!
