Full Frontal host Samantha Bee has decided to be proactive about the mystery of whether or not President Trump will continue the tradition of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner by putting together an alternative WHCD event of her own. According to The New York Times, Bee and the Full Frontal producers are currently planning a special to air on the same night as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner – April 29th – that will also take place in Washington DC called Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“We’re not trying to supersede it,” Bee said on the WHCD. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.” The special will most likely air on TBS, but Bee told NYT that she and the producers are still working out all the details. One detail Bee could share: All the proceeds from the event will go to the Committee to Protect Journalists. As for the more official DC event: “I honestly can’t imagine what they’re thinking, but I really wish them well,” Bee said. “I think that’s going to be very challenging. Does 3 Doors Down do comedy? I don’t know, maybe they do.”
