The New York Times Airs Commercial Promising Truth in the Time of President Trump During Oscars

While various award winners, and host Jimmy Kimmel, used their time during the Academy Awards to take aim at Donald Trump, during the commercial break New York Times argued that the Gray Lady would aid in the battle to keep certain policies in check. As the AV Club points out, “The Truth Is Hard” is the newspaper’s first television commercial since 2010. The ad itself offer a growing cacophony of different ideas, many of which seem to be at odds with each other like, “the truth is the media is dishonest” and “the truth is alternative facts are lies” or “the truth is a woman should dress like a woman” and “the truth is women’s rights are human rights.” It ends by promising to do reporting necessary to discover the truth beyond empty proclamations. The ad, which was released prior to its air date on Youtube and picked up by various media outlets, received President Trump’s review earlier today on Twitter.

Unfortunately, the president seems to have missed some of the truth. Just as “overrated” actress Meryl Streep received a standing ovation at the Oscars, the Times has reported increased subscriptions and is not, actually failing.
