Selena Gomez Ends Music Hiatus With Some Help From Kygo

Last August, Selena Gomez announced she’d be taking some time off from music to focus on health issues related to her lupus, ending a tour in support of her latest album, Revival, in the process. She then took a sabbatical from social media and the public eye and entered a rehab facility to treat her mental health. In November, Gomez returned to the spotlight at the AMAs, giving an inspired speech about the power of self-care. Now, it’s a new year and her music career is back in full swing: She’s released her first new song since Revival (save for Cashmere Cat’s “Trust Nobody,” recorded before her break) and it’s yet another EDM detour, this time on Kygo’s “It Ain’t Me.” While the song is not exactly celebratory — you’re head-bopping to a tune about a toxic relationship torpedoed by alcoholism — be glad to know that Gomez hasn’t skipped a hit-making beat in her absence. Brace yourselves for Justin Bieber’s review.
