Holy Hell Does Charlie Hunnam Have Some Horror Stories From Making The Lost City of Z

You can’t tell that this post is already extremely long, as it has been filled top-to-bottom with our silent screams. While filming adventurer epic The Lost City of Z, the cast was cursed. Or so we assume, as the totality of their production trauma is otherwise inexplicable. We already knew of Robert Pattinson’s encounter with so many spiders, and about how wonky postal service almost derailed Charlie Hunnam’s relationship, but, oh, friends, there was more. At the film’s CinemaCon panel, Hunnam reportedly revealed, “The greatest ordeal was in my hotel room — a beetle had burrowed into my ear and I woke up to a sound of a drill in my ear.” After trying to “MacGyver” the situation with the use of a neti pot, to no avail, Hunnam went back to sleep (?!) with the beetle cozily nestled away. Inevitably, though, the beetle began moving around again, sending Hunnam to the hospital.

So there’s that, and then there’s the time filming “ventured very far into the jungle and we got caught in a torrential downpour,” making it so that Hunnam very nearly got struck by lightning. Recalling the near-death experience, Hunnam said, “A lighting bolt struck about where the speakers are [pointing to something on stage] and knocked me off my feet — and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s go!’” Yeah, no, this beleaguered production is either the workings of a meteorologically inclined Scooby-Doo villain, or definitely cursed.
