Pharrell Williams might have been nominated by the Academy for Hidden Figures this year, but his new project seems like a combo of two other Oscar contenders. Take the musical romance of La La Land and the bittersweet, beachfront longing of Moonlight and you’ve got Atlantis, Williams’s upcoming musical based on his life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is inspired by Williams’s childhood in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and features a “Romeo and Juliet-style story.” So maybe that’s not exactly a perfect Moonlight–La La Land fusion, but with Williams in charge and Tony-winning Spring Awakening director Michael Mayer at the helm, you will cry just as much as if it were.
