Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
Second City alum Peter Grosz heads to Comedy Central later this month on Anthony Atamanuik’s new series The President Show, where he’ll serve both as a writer/co-executive producer and also appear opposite Atamanuik as Trump’s TV sidekick Mike Pence. So for this week’s clip, Second City sent us a scene from the 2002 revue Curious George Goes to War, which featured Grosz alongside Samantha Albert, Jean Villepique, Andy Cobb, Nyima Funk, and Keegan-Michael Key. Titled “Apology,” the ensemble scene covers pretty much every kind of public apology that exists, musical chairs-style, with Grosz playing an FBI agent
caught up in some post-9/11 controversy and Key playing a priest coming clean about his “inappropriate behavior.” Check out some more clips of Grosz and Key performing at The Second City here and here.
