Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek is a man on the verge. There’s that almost too-perfect casting as Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic, and while this could be the moment for Malek to nose his way into blockbusters, rom-coms, or the other usual performance trappings of an actor on the rise, he’s taking the indie route instead. Malek’s next project is Buster’s Mal Heart, written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith. It impressed on the festival circuit and is now slowly winding its way around the labyrinthine pathways indie films often pass through to reach the masses. The film’s trailer is dense and circumspect but an intriguing, promising platform for its burgeoning lead. The film will appear in limited release across the country on April 28, so don’t miss your chance to catch a rising star in a very weird role. You’ll later relish the chance to say you saw him when.
