With some help from Judd Apatow and Michael Showalter, comedy collaborators and married couple Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon wrote a movie together called The Big Sick, and now that the film has had its critically acclaimed Sundance premiere, the first trailer was released today. Showalter directed the movie, which is based on Gordon and Nanjiani’s lives and centers on “a Pakistani comic whose relationship with a graduate student is threatened by cultural differences and a health crisis.” Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Ray Romano, and Holly Hunter star in the film, which hits theaters with a limited release on June 23rd followed by a wide release on Friday, July 14th.
