Seeso’s Days Are Numbered

The future isn’t looking very bright for NBC’s streaming comedy site Seeso. According to Variety, NBCUniversal is laying off Seeso staff members a little over a month after it was revealed that Seeso head Evan Shapiro exited the company. While there are several shows slated to debut over the next couple months including Paul Reiser’s There’s…Johnny!, according to Variety’s report it sounds like NBC’s plans are likely to get rid of, or at least dramatically restructure, the service altogether:

Seeso has a scripted comedy There’s Johnny! set to premiere Aug. 24 and a handful of other series and specials slated to bow this year. But the service is not expected to stay in the original programming business for long. An NBCUniversal source indicated that the company would put its focus on expanding authenticated access to the NBC-owned programs with traditional and digital MVPD partners. Seeso is believed to have garnered a subscriber base to date in the low six-figures.

NBC originally announced Seeso back in 2015 before its launch in January 2016.
