After a long wait and a premiere at SXSW earlier this year, James Franco’s film-about-a-film The Disaster Artist got its first teaser trailer today. The film tells the story of the making of Tommy Wiseau’s infamously terrible 2003 movie The Room, with Franco taking on the starring role and even directing the film in character. Here’s the logline for the movie:
The Disaster Artist follows the outrageous adventures of eccentric filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and his best friend, actor Greg Sestero. These two endearing misfits move to L.A. and try to live the Hollywood dream by making their very own feature film, but end up embarking on a wildly unpredictable and hilariously unforgettable production. Leading to one of the most infamous, bizarre, and beloved midnight movies of all time, The Room.
Dave Franco plays Sestero, and the film’s cast is jam-packed with comedy people like Seth Rogen, Paul Scheer, Alison Brie, Jason Mantzoukas, Kristen Bell, Adam Scott, Hannibal Buress, Zach Braff, Danny McBride, June Diane-Raphael, Casey Wilson, Keegan-Michael Key, and the real Tommy Wiseau. The film premieres on December 1st with a limited release, followed by a wide release on December 8th.
