HBO Confirms Latest Game of Thrones Episode Leak Not Connected to Hack

Following news that HBO had been the successful target of a hack earlier this week, the next episode of Game of Thrones — the seventh season’s fourth episode — has leaked online. But it appears that this leak is a separate headache: According to HBO, the leaked episode came from an Indian distributor called Star India; the hackers have so far only obtained a script of the episode, though they got their hands on episodes of other shows like Ballers and Room 104. HBO confirmed to Vulture that the leaked GOT episode is not related to the hack currently being investigated by the FBI, which reportedly compromised as much as 1.5 terabytes of data. The network provided a statement from Star India to Vulture:

“This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”
