In recent years, the concept of “funny interview show that takes place inside a car” has exploded between the success of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and Carpool Karaoke, but it wasn’t until last night’s Conan that the show-in-a-car approach was pushed to its most mind-blowingly inventive level yet. “We’re gonna blow up the internet. You want to blow up the internet? This is gonna rock your world. Check this out, all right? Everyone else has done bells and whistles,” O’Brien says to guest Tom Cruise while driving around London. “My thing is, we take it back to basics, okay? We take it back to basics. Listen to this: We just drive.” Sure, it might not lead to stops at coffee shops or viral pop song covers, but O’Brien’s approach does lead to fascinating interactions like this:
O’Brien: Here we go. Two guys, just driving. Cruise: Are we gonna talk? Any questions you want to ask me? O’Brien: I’m kind of trying to concentrate.
Hopefully TBS orders 100 episodes of Conan in Cars with Child Safety Locks as soon as possible.
