Samantha Bee and the Harlem Gospel Choir Ask Congress for More Than Thoughts and Prayers on ‘Full Frontal’

Here’s a clip from last night’s Full Frontal, where Samantha Bee takes a closer look at the predictably and terribly inactive “thoughts and prayers” responses that Fox News and many conservatives have made in response to the Sutherland Springs church shooting and any other mass shooting that occurs. “Look, I would love to not talk about gun massacres, but we can’t ignore them. That’s Congress’s job,” Bee says before pointing out that the majority of Americans don’t want thoughts and prayers – they want action. She also offers this response to conservatives’ “good guy with a gun” argument: “The Republican party has completely bought into the myth that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, but that is not fair to ask of our nation’s many good guys!” she says. “Good guys should be helping people move couches and lending you their Netflix password – they shouldn’t have to risk their lives in a church parking lot to protect the world from a monster.” Then, with some help from the Harlem Gospel Choir, Bee proposes a wild idea: What if, instead of thinking and praying, Congress tried this thing called doing their job?
